Skald are a band from France that plays a very ritualistic form of viking music and this is a review of their self titled 2018 ep which was released as a joint effort between Decca Records F and Universal Music Publishing.
Tribal and shamanistic style drumming starts off the ep along with some dark soundscapes in the background while ritualistic yet melodic viking chanting can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording as well as the synths also giving the music more of an epic atmosphere.
Female vocals are also utilized in some parts of the songs while stringed instruments are also added onto the second track along with a great amount of pagan male vocals and shouts as well as acoustic guitars and folk music elements being added onto the closing track.
Skald plays a style of viking music that is very ritualistic along with some elements of neo-folk, the production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover Norse Paganism.
In my opinion Skald are a very great sounding viking music project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Odinn". 8 out of 10.
