Apparition are a musical project from Australia that plays their own style of horror soundtrack music and this is a review of their 2018 album "The Ravenous Dusk" which was released by Dark Adversary Productions.
80's era movie sounds start off the album along with some rain and thunder sounds a few seconds later while field recordings can also be heard at times and after awhile ambient style synths are added onto the recording and also gives the music more of a classic horror film atmosphere.
Most of the music is instrumental while programmed beats are also use at times and when they are mixed with the synths they capture the atmosphere of a funeral doom metal album without using any heavy instruments along with some clean yet distorted guitars being used briefly and at times the music gets very avant garde and as the album progresses the music gets more diverse and when whispers are utilized briefly they add in a touch of black metal.
Apparition creates their own interpretation of a 70's or 80's era horror movie soundtrack with their music while also adding in touches of ambient, black and funeral doom metal to give their music more of a haunting atmosphere and the production sounds very dark.
In my opinion Apparition are a very great sounding horror movie soundtrack musical project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Beginning" "The Dawn Approaches" "Distant Memories" and "Dance Of The Phantasms". 8 out of 10.
